Lil Uzi Vert got me excited
What’s poppin y’all,
Lil Uzi Vert is in an interesting position right now. His recent work hasn’t been received well by a lot of fans. Personally, I thought Pink Tape was solid, but I get why people weren’t feeling Eternal Atake 2—the reception just wasn’t great. There was supposed to be a tour for it, but with the lukewarm critical and fan response, it didn’t gain much traction.
Now, in 2024, Uzi hasn’t dropped anything yet, but he’s back to leaking snippets, and they sound way different from anything we’ve heard from him before. The second snippet sounds more like classic Uzi, but the first one? That one is giving 2019-2020 SoFaygo vibes, full of melodies and a completely new approach.
I’m actually liking the experimentation. Uzi seems to be aware that his fanbase has grown up, and if he wants to capture this younger audience—stay fresh in their minds—he’s got to adapt. That’s something Playboi Carti has done masterfully, constantly shifting his sound to resonate with the new wave. The challenge? That approach might alienate longtime fans, people who have been listening since the early Uzi days.
The first snippet I posted on IG is a clear example—some of us might not have the acquired taste for this new direction yet. But I respect that he’s paying attention to what people are saying. The downside? It might be making him hesitant to drop, something we saw happen with the original Eternal Atake when leaks and fan pressure pushed him into overthinking his releases.
Will this new wave of Uzi music actually drop? Or will he scrap it all again? Time will tell, but at least we know he’s in the lab cooking something different.
Stay tuned.
