Drake Fumble?? A$AP Rocky, Playboi Carti, and Song Of The Day
What’s poppin y’all,
We’re getting a lot of new updates regarding Drake, and honestly, I don’t know how I feel about it. The news premiered via Akademiks, who has broken Drake stories before—but we also know Drake has lied to him in the past, so take it with a grain of salt.
Akademiks started by saying that Drake told him, "Wait for the next chapter. This was the warm-up. Next chapter loading." He followed it up with, "Some Sexy Songs For You was the first of two very important chapters in my life. My talks soon come." Then, he teased that he’s got a new solo album on the way in Australia.
The problem is, he's flooding the market with music at this point. And we don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes. Circadian Rhythm should have been a much bigger hit than it was. We’re seeing Nokia gain some organic traction—but is it really organic? Latto was promoting it, dancing to it, vibing to it. It’s hard to tell what’s real and what’s industry maneuvering.
Meanwhile, A$AP Rocky is making moves, but is he actually dropping music? He teased a release the other day and is now the new creative director for Ray-Ban, which is a big deal since they’ve rarely had a creative director before. On top of that, he shared some snippets and showed that he’s locked in with Metro Boomin. The press is moving right, the music looks promising—but I don’t know if I believe it. It’s been almost seven years since his last album, Testing (2018). Rocky is 36 now, and ever since he got with Rihanna, he hasn’t dropped a thing.
On the AWGE front, Playboi Carti has billboards popping up everywhere, which means something is coming in 2025. You don’t throw up billboards on Spotify without dropping at least a single or an EP—but Carti isn’t really an EP type of guy. He’s also about to go on tour with his Opium crew, and it would be the perfect moment to drop an album and push his artists to another level. Things are looking good.
For the song of the day, I ended up revisiting MGK yesterday, checking out some of his lockdown exclusives, which were some of the best songs he ever made. That led me to seeing if he’s dropped anything new, especially since his rock phase, and I came across Don't Let Me Go—where he plays the piano and talks about personal struggles. It’s one of those raw, emotional tracks that lets you understand who MGK is. I really enjoyed Tickets to My Downfall, but Mainstream Sellout didn’t hit for me the same way.
That’s all for today. I’ll catch you guys tomorrow.
